National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year. The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896.
Liza, our Regional Director of Wellness, has been amazing in her ability to have patience while teaching Point Click Care and reviewing policies and procedures. Liza comes with experience and has been a great listener on several occasions.
Two residents commented about our wellness team:
Mary Riedel said, “They always tend to look at us as a unique human being, not a diagnosis.”
Joyce Dickey added, “They enjoy what they are doing and try to stay positive.”
We have several dogs and cats that reside at The Boulevard. Some of the staff went shopping for pet supplies on their own when the residents were unable to get out during the pandemic. The wellness staff also takes care of the pets when the residents are ill or out of the community.
The wellness team stepped up to support the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Memory care staff went from eight-hour to 12-hour shifts, to assist with staffing. Assisted Living staff kept a positive attitude, worked double shifts, and worked as true universal workers by doing housekeeping tasks and culinary duties.
I want to give an extra shoutout to LPN Stacy Brassel. She has been the glue that held everything together while The Boulevard has transitioned through staffing changes. Stacy’s dedication and commitment to the residents, co-workers, and family members has made her a true asset to the community.
Following is how we will be recognizing our nurses at The Boulevard Senior Living Wentzville, MO during National Nurses Week:
