Senior living has certainly changed over the past decade. An industry that once provided very little hands-on care has blossomed into a wonderful option for older adults. It now provides varying levels of assistance with residents’ activities of daily living, while arranging many opportunities for socialization and community. I am fortunate to work for Arrow Senior Living leading The Boulevard Senior Living – Wentzville team. I would like to share a little about my journey to becoming a senior living leader.
When I was sixteen, I watched my grandfather go through the end of his life with some of the most caring and compassionate nurses and caregivers. I knew right then that I wanted to be a nurse. What keeps me in senior living is I am blessed to experience these amazing lives and stories with our elders.
Arrow Senior Living hires for heart and is consistently promoting from within the company. Arrow is a leader in utilizing wellness technology to assist in the care of residents.
The long-term care market will continue to grow and expand in the years ahead, especially as the baby boomers continue to have more need for support and services. I also believe there will be a continued need for advances in technology that will allow people to live longer in senior living.
If someone is considering a career in senior living management, I would remind them that patience and empathy is the key, as you are not only dealing with just the resident, but also their loved ones. I would also inform them, they must be able to multitask at the drop of a hat, while remembering you are blessed to “get to” do this vs “have to.”
