The Boulevard Senior Living is Raising Awareness for Men’s Health Month

Category: Health & Wellness

Author: Brandon Schleeter

Men’s Health Month was created in 1992 to raise awareness of the importance of proper screenings, early detection, and obtaining regular medical advice for men and to encourage young men to implement self-care and a healthy lifestyle. Studies show a significant difference between the health of men and the health of women, as men are less likely to seek treatment for preventable diseases.

I feel in the world today men have several barriers to seeking treatment. One of the biggest is the society that we live in. It makes men feel as though they must be “tough.”  This, in turn, makes them feel they do not need to see a doctor or go for preventative screenings.

There are so many simple changes men can do right away to help create a healthier lifestyle and way of living. The following are some examples: diet and exercise, take a walk in the fresh air, make time for fun and relaxation with your friends, and work on relationships. These are all easy ways to start working on improving your overall health and well-being.

Men can help improve their overall health and decrease their risk for serious diseases and illnesses with preventative screenings and by establishing a relationship with a primary care physician. This is the first step to prevent serious health issues.

At The Boulevard Senior Living Wentzville, MO, we take the health and well-being of our male residents, whether in Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Memory Care, very seriously.

Healthy lifestyles and self-care for most men start only when needed. Preventative screenings, along with regular checkups while younger, can help lead to a healthier, richer, and more enjoyable life in the later years for men.
