The Boulevard Senior Living to Celebrate Back-to-School Season

At The Boulevard Senior Living, we are always excited to celebrate the Back-to-School season! Partnering with local schools is typically a year-long effort, but there is a special focus on the time when most students are heading back to the classroom- whether in person or virtually. We have partnered with The Morgan School. Our residents find it easy to relate to school outreach efforts as many of them can recall a time when they returned to school as well.

Fostering these relationships helps build a sense of community among students, teachers, residents, and staff. There are plenty of advantages to intergenerational activities- such as decreasing the social and economic isolation so many seniors feel. Research has shown that seniors’ health, memory, and balance can benefit from volunteering regularly with children. Not only do these relationships benefit the older generations, but also the younger ones as well. Studies have also shown that children who interact with elders are less likely than others to start illegal drug use, will more likely have improved communication with their parents, and are less likely to experience depression. Lastly, these experiences can create timeless memories for both the seniors and children involved, such as making a new friend, trying a new game or activity, or listening to stories of each other’s life.

The Boulevard Wentzville is very fortunate to have numerous schools within walking distance of our community. The Morgan School is an Early Childhood Center located in our parking lot. We have shared many intergenerational events with the children and look forward to many more. The kids have joined us for an Easter egg hunt, trick or treating, singing Christmas carols for the holidays, and residents have read storybooks to the children.

Stone Creek Elementary School children have brought much joy to our residents with their choir performances here on our campus and their 4th grade after-school program visits. The children have created a strong bond and social connection with the Boulevard residents. We are so excited to have them visit again this school year! The teachers give so much of their time before and after school to make sure our next generation is well educated. We are in the process of establishing a partnership with Timberland High School, which is located right down the street from us. Our hope is to provide an outlet for their performing arts program and possibly have the students assist residents with technology support. In the past, we have attended their school musicals, which have always been very rewarding and entertaining.

The residents of The Boulevard Wentzville look forward to supporting our “Back to School” school supplies drive for the children. These contributions set them up for a successful school year. Once again, this year, we will collect needed supplies helping to ensure that each child is equipped with the fundamental tools to help them thrive in the classroom.

We are collecting school supplies for The Morgan School. If you would like to donate, please drop off items off at The Boulevard Wentzville front desk. The school supplies needed are: #2 pencils, washable markers, crayons, index cards, Post-It notes, dry erase markers, permanent markers, construction paper, Puffs with lotion, hand sanitizer, wide-ruled notebooks, and water color paints.

Any opportunity where The Boulevard Wentzville can collaborate with a school affords both generations a connection with past and future trends, experiences, and a learning opportunity. It is important for both age groups to create intergenerational bonds of trust, knowledge, and friendship. Area schools are welcome to reach out to The Boulevard Wentzville and share their students and programs with our residents. We, in turn, will do the same!

The Boulevard Senior Living will continue to show their support in a lot of different ways this Back-to-School season and throughout the school year.
