2023 Reflection on Word of the Year: Community

Category: Senior Living

Author: Tracy Haarmann, Executive Director

As we wrap up 2023, we reflect on months past and what lies ahead with our community’s journey.

If you recall, our Personal and Professional Development Coach, Michael “Buck” Buckley. Challenged us to pick a “Word of the Year” in January 2023. Buck asked us to look inward and consider what we need more of or what might improve our lives.

The time has come to revisit our Word of the Year for 2023 and explore its impact on The Boulevard Senior Living – Wentzville. Whether you’ve been an active member or are just joining us, this retrospective journey invites us all to celebrate the past year.

Throughout this year, our community has thrived in embodying the essence of our chosen word: ‘community.’ We’ve seen a multitude of successes that reflect our commitment to serving and supporting one another. From our monthly Acts of Service—such as Warner’s Warm Up, collaborating with Operation Food Search for a successful food drive, and hosting an appreciation luncheon for our first responders. We’ve consistently given back, fostering a culture of generosity and care.

The community has forged strong partnerships and outreach initiatives. Our collaboration with the Agape Food Pantry House in Warrenton stands as a testament to our dedication. Residents volunteer monthly to support this vital cause. Additionally, our involvement with Hope Seeds is through the Lutheran Church. Demonstrates our global outlook as residents work diligently to pack seeds for impoverished nations. This offers a beacon of hope beyond our borders.

Our continuous after-school program with Stone Creek Elementary, particularly with the fourth-grade students, showcases our investment in the future. This ongoing commitment to education and mentorship illustrates our belief in nurturing the potential of our youth and fostering a sense of community among different age groups.

Reflecting on 2023, our achievements highlight our community’s collective efforts and unwavering spirit of unity. Our dedication to service, outreach, and education has shaped the year’s successes and laid the groundwork for a stronger, more connected community moving forward.

In 2024, I aspire for residents and staff to feel a deep sense of belonging and fulfillment within our senior living community. By nurturing a supportive environment and fostering meaningful connections. I am excited to witness the continued growth, joy, and well-being of all who call this place home.

I look forward to catching our 2024 Word of the Year blog soon!
